For the second year in a row, the team at Lowry Main Street Dental sponsored the Denver National Eating Disorder Awareness (NEDA) Walk! We had a great time participating while supporting this important cause.
The event took place at 9 AM on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Once again, it was held in the The Great Lawn Park in Lowry.
Why We Sponsor This Event
Lowry Main Street Dental wants to contribute to NEDA’s mission to eradicate eating disorders from our world. Suffering from an eating disorder can be a helpless and frightening experience for those affected and their families. We are fighting to live in a world where these types of disorders can no longer hurt the millions who fight them each year.
Did you know:
- 1/2 of teenage girls and 1/3 of teenage boys use unhealthy measures to control their weight?
- 20 million women and 10 million men in the USA will suffer from an eating disorder during their lifetime?
- Even though eating disorders have the highest mortality rate when compared to other mental illnesses, they receive the lowest amount of government funding? Other major mental disorders receive about $70 of government funding per affected person, but those suffering from eating disorders only benefit from about $1 of government research.
What NEDA is Doing to Help
The Denver Walk is just the tip of the iceberg, there are more than 90 NEDA Walks held across the country. That translates to more than 20,000 people who come together to walk and raise money for research, prevention, and treatment of eating disorders.
If you think you or someone you know should seek medical help for an eating disorder, this free, confidential screening is a good place to start.
